Editor's review
In any office where document processing work takes place; there is a need to catalog a huge number of files. Now by using the Windows Explorer tool you can look at the list of files stored in a drive or system. However it is not convenient for searching or cataloging and ideally the information should be collected in a spreadsheet. The Filecats Standard 2.2 is designed to meet this specific need and it in just couple of clicks can transfer the entire file list, including the folder details, into an inbuilt Excel style spreadsheet. The best part, it includes hyperlinks to actual files and folders and thus allows you to reach to them in one click.
When you launch the Filecats Standard 2.2 application, you do not find any interface. Instead the application has got itself added to the windows context menu. To run the application on any folder, just right click on it and then click on Filecats Standard. This brings up the option box for metadata where you will get the chance to set your preferences using the settings option. Once done, just click on the Start button to initiate the cataloging process. It would next show up a screen mentioning the number of files it has checked along with the time it has consumed. Next you find a detailed spreadsheet file which houses the information that the program has retrieved. It includes columns for folder name to file type, file path and even lists their attributes for easy reference.
When we consider the flexibility that Filecats Standard 2.2 offers in cataloging our files, we wholeheartedly recommend it to advanced PC users who like to keep a record of their data. The application earns a score of three rating stars for meeting its stated goals without a blip.
